Best Time Visit Seoul: I Regret Going in Summer

Travel3 min readBy Alex Reed

Visit Seoul in April, May, October, or November. These months give you 15-25°C weather, cherry blossoms or fall colors, and tolerable crowds. Summer (June-August) is a humid nightmare, and winter freezes your face off.

I learned this the hard way in July 2024. Stepped off the plane into what felt like a wet sauna, spent ₩50,000 on an emergency umbrella during a monsoon downpour, and watched my carefully planned street food tour turn into a sprint between air-conditioned cafes. Don't be me.

The Verdict: Seoul's Best and Worst Months

Month Weather Crowds Costs Rating
April 12-20°C, cherry blossoms Medium Mid ★★★★★
May 17-25°C, perfect Medium-High Mid-High ★★★★★
June 21-27°C, rain starts Medium Mid ★★
July 24-30°C, monsoon hell Low Low
August 25-31°C, humidity 80%+ Low Low
September 20-27°C, typhoons Medium Mid ★★★
October 12-21°C, fall colors High Mid-High ★★★★★
November 5-13°C, crisp Medium Mid ★★★★
December -2-6°C, Christmas vibes Medium-High Mid-High ★★★
Jan-Feb -6-3°C, brutal cold Low Low ★★
March 4-12°C, warming up Medium Mid ★★★

The best time to visit Seoul is April-May or October-November. These shoulder seasons give you comfortable weather, manageable crowds, and reasonable hotel prices. Everything else is a compromise.

💡 Pro tip: Book Seoul accommodations 60-90 days out during peak months (April, October). I've seen hotel prices double when I waited until 30 days before my October trip.

Spring in Seoul (March-May): Peak Season for a Reason

March: The Awkward Transition

Temperature: 4-12°C | Rain: 7 days | Crowds: Medium

March is Seoul shaking off winter. Some days you'll walk around in a light jacket; others you'll wonder why you didn't pack that down coat.

The real action doesn't start until late March when plum blossoms show up around Gyeongbokgung Palace. But honestly? March is better for budget hunters than cherry blossom chasers.

What I liked: Hotel prices 20-30% cheaper than April. Fewer tourists at palaces. You can actually get a table at that seoul korean bbq spot in Mapo without a 2-hour wait.

What sucked: Still cold enough that outdoor exploring gets old fast. Yellow dust storms from China blow through (check Korea Meteorological Administration air quality forecasts).

Item Cost (March) Cost (April)
Hotel (mid-range) ₩80,000-120,000/night ₩120,000-180,000/night
Flight (LAX-ICN) $650-800 RT $850-1,100 RT
Tourist density 60% capacity 95% capacity

April: Cherry Blossom Chaos

Temperature: 12-20°C | Rain: 8 days | Crowds: High

The best time visit Seoul hits its first peak in April. Cherry blossoms explode around April 5-15 (varies yearly), and the entire city loses its mind.

Yeouido Spring Flower Festival draws 2+ million people. Seokchon Lake turns into an Instagram battlefield. But here's the thing—it's worth the crowds.

Just maybe don't do it in July.
